I believe everything is a skill.  Instead of blaming ourselves for not having the “will” to lose weight or  work out, we see it as an issue of not having learned the necessary skills to be successful.  With your  coach, you’ll learn the skills you need to develop to get fit and live an active and healthy life.

From a neurological perspective everything is trainable and changeable.  The question is, how do you want it to change?

It Takes Energy to Change… Literally

When we first start something new, our brains process the change in our cortex. The cortex requires high glucose (energy) utilization.  Literally this means that it takes a lot of energy when we are trying to develop a new skill.  That’s why the process of changing is often uncomfortable: we’re designed that way.   Our nervous system is designed to protect us and the status quo.  Anything new is perceived as a potential threat that has to be evaluated, requiring energy in the form of glucose.  Everything we do that requires glucose (energy) is stressful to our bodies.  But when something becomes a skill or a habit, our mental processing moves to the back of the brain, therefore requiring less glucose and less energy.

How often do we make a New Year’s resolution and find that by February we hit a wall?  Change is hard; but instead of believing you lack the will to accomplish your goal, we argue that you lack the skill:  a teachable and trainable skill.
